APPLYING UNDER HIDDEN DISABILITIES
The law
In 2019 the law surrounding Blue Badges was changed to include Hidden Disabilities. This includes neurological disabilities like Autism.
This is a UK wide law, however different counties appear to require different types of evidence in order to qualify. For some counties, a diagnosis is not needed. Some counties state certain rates of DLA or PIP are required. We recommend checking this on your Local Authority's website, but every county should have a 'Hidden Disability' option to select when applying.
the criteria
The Hidden Disability criteria includes people who:
- Cannot undertake a journey without there being a risk of serious harm to their health and safety, or that of any other person
- Cannot undertake a journey without it causing them considerable psychological distress
- Have very considerable difficulty when walking (both the physical act and experience of walking
